Scientific Evidence? The Raw Data

NASA’s TRLs and Modern Medicine’s Immature and High-Risk Evidence

This page provides the raw material of my article without any analysis and references. I am finalising the article before submitting it for publication. This page therefore provides the summarised answers to the questions: “What is scientific evidence within the continuum of science and technology development using the natural sciences and the technological industries, such as the aircraft industries, as the benchmark?" I then employ the facts obtained from the natural sciences to provide answers to the question: "What represents the 'scientific evidence' of modern medicine's therapeutic technologies?”

1. The tool to assess the maturity and safety of technologies within the continuum of science and technology development is the National Aeronautical and Space Administration’s (NASA’s) technology readiness levels (TRLs).

2. TRLs consist of 9 levels:

1. TRL 1 - 3, the high-risk unverified science and experimental technologies;
2. TRL 4 - 7 are the TRL 3 technologies undergoing testing and verification under increasingly realistic environments to eliminate risks and unknowns;
3. TRL 8 - 9 are the technologies which have successfully gone through TRL 4 - 7, to emerge as mature, risk-free, tested and verified TRL 8 - 9 technologies.

3. TRLs confirm that scientific evidence of technologies is represented by the successful results of mature risk-free TRL 9 technologies such as DVD’s, electricity, washing machines, passenger aircraft, motor vehicles, etc. (This summary does not deal with the consequences of technologies, such as, for example, environmental pollution.)

4. NASA and the aircraft industries do not accept a risk that perhaps 1% - 3% of their satellites/aircraft are allowed to crash on residential areas due to the lack of testing or verification.

5. The aircraft industry unambiguously tests and verifies that an aircraft engine truly produces the power to safely takeoff from a runway before it markets such an engine.

6. Motor car manufacturers test their cars to destruction to verify their true worth. Cars are deliberately crashed into walls to assess their safety.

7. Modern medicine investigates only the experimental efficacy of drug technologies, which means that, for instance, a drug can lower blood glucose, TRL 3.

8. Therefore, modern medicine’s “scientific evidence” is represented at marketing level only by a drug's experimental therapeutic efficacy, TRL 3.

9. Modern medicine does not properly test and verify their drug technologies before marketing by passing them through TRL 4 - 7 stages to eliminate risks and to confirm their safety and true worth.

10. Modern medicine admits that the effectiveness of its drugs, which means the verification that the drugs are truly working in real life diseases, is sought out only after marketing (compare with number 5 above).

11. Modern medicine admits that it would not be able to market drugs which are safe. If drugs must be safe before marketing, no drugs would be marketed at all. It attempts to obtain feedback on most of the side-effects of drugs after marketing via feedback from health professionals.

12. Modern medicine therefore knowingly accepts the risk that a percentage of patients will suffer harm or injuries or may even die after taking its drugs, due to it not subjecting its drug technologies to testing and real life scientific verification before marketing (compare with number 4 above).

13. Modern medicine rejects, for instance, on behalf of patients, the effective and safe TRL 9 homoeopathic therapies as “anecdotes or anecdotal evidence”, such as my documented successful treatment results for patients’ paraplegia after spinal cord injuries.

14. The use, or rather the abuse of the term “anecdotes or anecdotal evidence” by modern medicine manifests itself in the rejection of all documented real-life successful cures of homoeopathy's TRL 9 therapies.

15. Modern medicine demands experimental TRL 3 evidence of the efficacy of homoeopathy’s TRL 9 real-life effective therapies via their randomised controlled trials, while simultaneously dismissing the abundance of evidence of genuine cures of this TRL 9 healing.

16. Lastly, the above facts would allow for justice in healthcare, whereby all therapeutic technologies, across all therapeutic modalities, can be employed for patients, after the therapies have had their maturity verified by NASA’s TRLs.
