I
studied modern medicine (MM) at the Free University of Amsterdam [Vrije
Universiteit (VU)] in the Netherlands, during the early 1980s. Throughout After
qualifying from the VU Amsterdam, I departed for the United Kingdom, working and studying to obtain higher qualifications in Internal
Medicine. I passed the Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians [MRCP
(UK)] diploma examination during 1992. On my return to South Africa in
1993, I was compelled by the then Medical and Dental Council of South
Africa to work under supervision for one year in a state hospital, as a
prerequisite to obtain full registration as a medical practitioner. On
arrival at that hospital, I was appointed, ironically, as a consultant
physician due to my qualifications and due to the failure to attract other
registered specialist physicians. During
my training in the UK
I was not blind to the failures of MM especially in chronic diseases.
Patients suffered immensely, whether from the ravages of diabetes mellitus
or ulcerative colitis etc., etc. While working as a consultant physician
in South Africa, I decided to treat selected patients suffering from various acute and/or
chronic diseases with homoeopathic medicines. Those patients arrived at
the end of the road as far as MM treatments were concerned and were as is
often the case, told to "live" with their complaints or
diseases. I
started to add homoeopathic treatment to the conventional treatment of the
patients under my care in hospital. Please note that I added the
homoeopathic treatment to the patients' conventional treatments. I did not
stop, or interfere with their conventional treatment without due
consideration of the global state of health of the patient. The results of
doing this were stunning to the patients as well as my immediate medical
staff. At
the end of November 1994, I resigned from this post to set up my own
private practice in Cape Town. I deliberately chose a general practice format which allowed me to treat
homoeopathically, patients suffering from diseases spanning the entire
range of medicine which allowed me consequently to verify and document all
the results thus obtained. © Dr HJD Jeggels 2006 |
